Vested Interest – U.S. Soccer
• Referees shall not officiate in any match where there is a vested interest
• “Vested interest” is defined as when the official or a member of the official's family (spouse, child or parent) or that person’s team may be affected by the outcome of the match.
Conflict of Interest
• The referees shall be neither a past nor present member of either of the competing teams.
• Nor related to a member (member to include players, coaches and or administrators) of either of the competing teams.
• If the referee has had any past challenges with the coach or technical staff or the team, they shall not accept the game, try to get assigned to a different game, but certainly not referee the match. If there is no other option take the AR position away from the individual(s).
• Referees are not to be on games with the same age/gender and division of the competition as a participating family member.
